Planning is well underway for the 2010 Australian University Games (AUG) in Perth.
The event team will be posting regular circulars for university team managers with information on the Games, registration, transport, accommodation, the social program and much, much more. Be sure to check here regularly for updates.
Since its inception in 1993, the Australian University Games (AUG) has grown to be Australia's largest annual multi-sport event. Held each September/October, the Games is renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australian university athletes. AUG is known as the flagship event on the national university sporting calendar.
The Games are recognised as a perfect opportunity to provide university athletes, many of whom are of Olympic standard, to compete against each other in a national multi-sport event. As such, the Games has built up a reputation as a not-to-be-missed event, attracting over 6,000 participants each year.
Off the sporting field, an action-packed, week-long social program is held to complement sporting activities and enhance the event experience for all participants.
Each year the Games sporting schedule is made up of more than 28 individual and team sports. Unlike previous years where athletes were required to qualify for the national event through regional Games, the event is now open to all competitors and has separate divisions.
In 2010 the Australian University Games will be held in Perth from 26 September - 1 October with 31 sports contested.
Participants will compete in: Athletics, Australian Rules Football, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kendo, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rowing, Rugby Union 7's, Sailing, Softball, Squash, Surfing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Tenpin Bowling, Touch, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball and Water Polo.
